Biography - Bruno Dammizio
 |
Mr. Dammizio is originally from the Niagara Region. Born and raised in Thorold, Ontario,
a small community in Niagara, he attended Dennis Morris High School in St. Catharines,
and graduated with a Computer Science Degree from the University of Waterloo in 1980.
After graduation, his career took him to Toronto, Canada’s financial and technology Mecca,
where he would embark on an impressive 20-year career in the emerging and rapidly changing
information technology field.
In 1985 he established DMC Inc. and over the next 16 years as its CEO and
|
President, DMC would be transformed into one of Canada’s leading and highly respected private
information technology consulting companies, delivering award-winning, leading-edge custom solutions,
strategies, expertise, and comprehensive solutions for the digital economy. Best-in-Class e-business
and enterprise-scale solutions developed by his firm assisted Canada’s fortune 100 companies including
Labatts Breweries, BMO Nesbitt Burns, TD, Sunoco, AGF, CP Rail, CIBC, Nike, Sony, Purolator Courier
and many others to compete globally.
In 1998, a leading edge internet-based destination management and reservation
system designed and developed by his firm for Bell Canada was awarded the top
award in Canada for technology excellence by CIO Canada at its annual Gala Awards...
Information Technology’s version of the Academy Awards.
In May 2000, DMC Inc., a Canadian leader in the deployment of e-business solutions,
a firm he had founded, was acquired by AT&T, a prominent telecommunications company,
as part of its strategy to compete on a larger scale in the e-commerce and Internet
field. Mr. Dammizio spearheaded efforts during the transitional 12-month period
that followed, and completed his tenure June 2001.
Following on the heals of his remarkable 20-year technology career, Mr. Dammizio
decided to follow a different track --- something more personal ---, which led him
to Niagara in 2002, where he decided to focus his energies back home in his historical
roots and by also lending his support through a variety of philanthropic initiatives.
The stunningly beautiful Niagara River Golf Club, a $30+ million dollar privately
funded new initiative, represents a key first component in the realization of Mr.
Dammizio’s vision and passion to improve prospects in Niagara. Mr. Dammizio
strongly believes that tourism is a key economic driver in Niagara, fostering
regional development, attracting investments and creating economic development and
employment. With this world-class public golf venue planned for the upper Niagara
River region, Niagara’s stature is considerably strengthened as it secures its
place as a world-class golf tourism destination.
Mr. Dammizio supports a variety of charities throughout the Niagara Region, and in
third world countries. Over the last three years he has been a major sponsor of
the Niagara Community Leaders Invitational Charity Golf Event, an important fundraiser
facilitated by "Mr. St. Catharines" - Archie Katzman - in support of the Niagara
Regional Health Centre in Niagara. Mr. Dammizio is also pleased to be Presenting
Sponsor of the St Catharines General Hospital Foundation Gala Fundraiser in 2007
in support of Niagara health care.
Keynote Speaker at the 2006 CIBPA Niagara Annual Awards Gala at Niagara Fallsview
Casino, Mr. Dammizio formally announced the creation of a $600,000 endowment to
create University of Waterloo Computer Science Entrance Scholarships for Niagara
residents. Proceeds from the endowment will provide six major scholarships, each
valued at $5,000 annually, to outstanding students from Niagara entering their
first year in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or Computer Engineering at
the University of Waterloo. (Press Release details, click here).
Mr. Dammizio is the 2006 recipient of Niagara’s prestigious Humanitarian Award,
which was presented to Mr. Dammizio by Dan McLean of CHCH TV at the annual awards
gala on behalf of Italian community and business leaders representing the entire
Niagara Region.
Mr. Dammizio continues to work with community leaders in Niagara to promote economic
development and tourism, while continuing to facilitate charitable initiatives that
can directly benefit the region.
